Is an online friend a real friend?

    You have not: Met them

You have/might have: Chatted to them regularly for a year or more in text or even skype.

So how close to a 'real friendship' could it be? What is a 'real friendship' anyway? Can it really be defined?

    Deep Questions.

Real friendship is when you can connect your genitals with each other

It propably depends on the person and that's why no one can give you a legit answer.
If both parts of this friendship consider it a true friendship then it is a true friendship isn't it?

Depends on how honest the two people are I guess. Why DC though?

Online friendship is not friendship. Online friendship is acquaintanceship.

Yes, friendship is way more than physically interacting with someone.

Ofc they are real. In fact online friend is best friend. He will never be able to beat the shit out of you for offending him and he will never get mad and you will never get let down since no expectations of him.

    Make games not war. Peace.

Yes, of course. A friendship is how you connect with someone emotionally. You don't have to be there physically in order to connect with someone like that. It sure helps, but it isn't needed. I have friends online I've known for years that if they were to "break up with me" I would probably go into a depression and cry my eyes out. Just because I've never personally met them, I still care closely for them even though the entire Pacific Ocean is between us.

    Define real friend.

There's a saying "A friend in need is a friend indeed", and I think that's the way you could define real friends. I'm sure there's people who could be emotionally attached to you enough for them to perhaps be real friends, but it is rarely that you'd have the chance to test it like that.

In any case, I'm sure it's possible, but treat most people you meet online as mates, not friends

Yes it is, more than anything on steam since you actually will get to keep in touch with him over many games.

Obviously you will have even more of a friendship with real life friends but you can also have friends on the internet.

What if your online friend is a real friend who you now only communicate with via chat. Are they a real friend?

If you can have "real" friends then can you have... "unreal" friends?

If you can trade rares with them without being scammed, then yes.
